COPAC clarification statement on UNDP advisor’s involvement COPAC would like to clarify that the process of drafting Zimbabwe’s constitution is nationally owned and people driven. There is no foreign intervention in the drafting process.
All support provided by UNDP to the constitutional process is technical and demand driven as requested by COPAC. In addition to the technical support, UNDP manages a basket fund into which 10 other development partners are contributing.
Further, consultants in COPAC are seconded to the Secretariat and do not in any way influence the work of the drafting team. Their role is to facilitate the process through impartial technical support.
COPAC is independent in its drafting role. The final constitution will reflect the wishes of a broad cross section of the people of Zimbabwe. The Parliamentary Select Committee appreciates the technical support provided through UNDP in the process of drafting a new constitution for Zimbabwe.
